WAS THERE AN OBAMA-DALEY DEAL ON THE PRESIDENCY?

Hi Rick...Great article....One other item needs attention. Obama's flowery (and undeserved) endorsement of that hack Todd Stroger for Cook County Board President in 2006.

http://blogs.chicagotribune.com/news_columnists_ezorn/2006/11/obama_endorses_.html

Daley's brother John is the finance chairman of the county board. He wouldn't have been had Tony Peraica won in Nov. 2006.

As you know Rick, because of "Toddler," Chicago residents will have to pay the nation's highest sales tax (something John Daley supported when the tax increase was first proposed). I'm in suburban Cook, paying a tiny bit less, but too much considering what we get out of these ward-heelers.

There's a silver lining for your town, Rick. Communities bordering Cook County can expect extra business from consumers avoiding the higher sales taxes.

Good God! I didn't know that Obama endorsed Toddler. Of course, the Cook County Board is the most corrupt political entity in Illinois. Reformers rarely even bother running anymore.

One thing about that Stroger endorsement; it doesn't really track with the timeline. Daley endorsed Obama on December 20 while Obama returned the favor a month later. That early November endorsement of Stroger may have been a signal to Daley that he'd play ball but I don't think it was part of the deal itself.

Ed.
